To well integrate economic growth with environmental protection towards sustainable development the People Committee of Tiengiang province in the Mekong Delta Region has signed an agreement with VESDEC to conduct an environmental planning for the province.
From December 2012 to December 2013 VESDEC has collected information, data in the environment, socio-economy of the province, field surveys, sampling, environmental analysis, modeling, mapping and study on ecological zoning and environmental planning for the whole province. 4 environmental regions with 22 sub-regions were divided, rational use of natural resources and environmental protecion for each region and sub-region were suggested. Enviornmental planning for industrial, urban, agricultural, aquacultural sectors were also studied. Over 20 thematic reports and project reports, 6 digital environmental maps with scale of 1:5,000 were prepared. 2 workshops and one training course on environmental planning were provided for provincial environmental managers. The Project has completed in January 2014.
