3.1. Mekong River Basin
The Mekong River (the section through China is called the Lancang River, the section through Laos and Thailand is called Mae Nam Khong, the section through Cambodia is called the Mekong River and in the Mekong Delta is called the Cuulong River) is one of the rivers. The river is one of the the largest discharge rivers in the world with a total basin area of ​​795,000 km2, a length of 4,909 km. The river basin is divided into: Upstream from the junction of Thailand - Laos - Myanmar border and up and downstream from this point to the East Sea. The entire Mekong basin area in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam is located downstream.

Resolution 120 / NQ-CP dated 17/11/2017 of the Government on Sustainable Development of the Mekong River Delta (Mekong Delta ) and  climate change adaptation (CC) clearly states: “Mekong Delta is a large land occupied 12% of the national area, 19% of the national population, has advantages in the development of agriculture, food industry, tourism, and renewable energy; it is the largest agricultural production center of Vietnam, contributing 50% of rice output, 65% of aquaculture production and 70% of fruits of the country; 95% of rice for export and 60% of fish for export; having a convenient position in trade with ASEAN countries and the Mekong Sub-Region ...

ANNOUNCEMENT

In order to reorganize the North Branch of VESDEC on May 29th , 2019, Director of VESDEC signed a decision to dismiss Mr. Pham Tien Dung, MSc. from the position of North Branch Director. The decision takes effect from June 1st , 2019. From this day Mr. Pham Tien Dung no longer works officially for VESDEC.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF HYDROELECTRIC PROJECTS IN VIETNAM

ABSTRACT:

Vietnam is endowed  with rich potential of hydropower (HP) with more than 35,000  MW of total generation capacity, of which small HP is around 4,000 MW. The renewable energy (RE) is strongly promoted by the Government of Vietnam as a measure to ensure the country’s energy security, affordability and sustainability as   well as battle the climate change. A number of policies, regulations have been  issued  by the Government to promote RE.
